1 | Economic analysis of small scale furniture production in Kwara State, Nigeria |
Most existing research on furniure making focuses on prodhuction, economic importance and budgetary analysis. The factors explaining furniture making are often ignored. Thus, this study assessed the budgetary analysis and identified factors influencing furniture making in the state. A total of one hundred wood furniture makers were interviewed using structured questionnaire. Descriptive statistics, budgetary and regression analySis were the analytical tools used to achieve the research objectives. The result revealed that all the furniture makers were males with an average age of 53years. The study showed that the hard wood most commonly used for furniture making are:Afzellaafricana, Gmeliñaarborea, ProSopisaricana, Pterocarpuserinaceus and Anogeissusleiocarpus. The budgetary analysis indicated a total net income (NI) of N2,255,990. About 86% of the total variation in oupu was explained bhy the independent variables. Furthermore, the cost of labour (X2), fixed costs (X3) and other variable costs (X5) were significant at 5% level of probabilities. Policies and strategies towards re-afforestation and input subsides will enhance production in the industry. Govenment and other entrepreneurs should trainmore youths in the industry to raise productivity and also to ensure that furniture making artesian and technician do not go into extinction in Nigeria. | Salau, S.A. and Nofiu, N.
